PSA: PS Plus Getting New Day-1 Exclusive Game in August 2025

PS Plus Extra and Premium users will get another day-one game in August 2025 as a new PS5 adventure game is set to join the catalog. Abzu dev Giant Squid’s promising new game, Sword of the Sea, will be getting a console exclusive release on the PS5 on August 19.

Sword of the Sea is a charming and zen surfing adventure where players explore a “mysterious and visually stunning world of waves.” The game’s composer is none other than the talented Austin Wintory.

“Explore a world where the land flows in constant waves,” an official description reads. “From massive tides to the smallest ripples, the shifting sea of dunes is incredibly detailed and beautifully rendered.”

Sword of the Sea will also release on PC. An Xbox version has not been announced.

Sony will kick off its August 2025 PS Plus announcements tomorrow, July 30, with the free monthly Essential games that’ll go live on Tuesday, August 5. By August 13, we’ll get the full Extra and Premium lineup.

Besides Sword of the Sea, we’re expecting classics Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis to join PS Plus Premium. The games have already been confirmed for PS Plus with a “summer 2025” window.
