A classic ’90s PlayStation game is getting a remaster for PS5. The new game will feature some big changes to bring back a fan-favorite character.

Argonaut Games has announced that Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos will be getting a remaster for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. No official release date has been announced as of yet, though, so it’s unclear exactly when the remaster is set to release.

Alongside the game being remastered, Croc 2 will add many new features, including new enemies to fight, new characters to interact with, and even new gameplay mechanics. A triple jump has been added to the game, and of course the remaster will also feature an updated look to the game’s visuals. A digital museum will also be added into the game, chronicling the history of Croc 2’s development and release.

Originally released in 1999, Croc 2 is a classic platformer of the 1990s. Players play as Croc, the titular crocodile who goes on a quest to search for his missing parents, as well as trying to rescue Professor Gobbo from an enemy. Like many games of the ’90s, Croc is best known for its heavy promotional material. The game was heavily advertised during its release, with Croc appearing across a litany of different products to show off the game.

Popular 2023 PS5, PS4 Game Quietly Delisted From PlayStation Store

A positively reviewed 2023 PS5 and PS4 game has been permanently delisted from the PS Store without notice. Frontier Developments’ F1 Manager 2023 was removed from sale sometime over the last 24-48 hours.

F1 Manager 2023 was discounted on the PS Store during the first round of the Summer Sale before being delisted. The first batch of discounts expires today, so it’s unclear why F1 Manager 2023 was pulled a tad early.

Released in August 2023, F1 Manager 2023 received generally positive reviews. The PS5 version holds a Metacritic average score of 76/100.

Those who own a copy of the game can continue to access it from their console libraries. PS4 owners should be able to claim a PS5 upgrade at no additional cost.

PlayStation Plus Adds Award-Winning 2025 RPG

PS Plus Extra has dropped the final batch of July 2026 games for select regions, which includes an acclaimed 2025 RPG. Developed by indie studio Jump Over the Age, Citizen Sleeper 2: Starward Vector headlines this month’s final catalog update.

As a reminder, Sony has begun staggering the rollout of PS Plus Extra and Premium games in the US, the UK, and Japan, so these three regions get access to the following four games today:

• Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind
• Snow Bros. Wonderland

For those not familiar with Citizen Sleeper 2, it’s a sequel to the award-winning 2022 game in which we play as a “sleeper” whose mind has been put into an artificial body.

“You are a sleeper, an emulation of a human mind housed in an artificial body,” the plot reads. “You are on the run from the corporation that made you and the gang that seeks to control you. Commandeer a ship, build a network of crew and allies, and take on challenging contracts as you seek to build a future for yourself.”

Tomorrow, July 29, Sony will announce the PS Plus Essential August 2026 free games lineup.

GTA 6 Is Region-Locked on PlayStation 5, Not Xbox

In rather unsavory news to start the week, Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) download codes will be region-locked on the PS5, while Xbox Series X|S will be free of that restriction. It’s unclear why both platforms are being treated differently, but Rockstar has warned PlayStation users against buying boxed codes sold at retailers in countries that don’t match their account regions.

PS Store download codes are usually region-locked, but as we mentioned above, this restriction also applies to PS5 codes purchased at retail.

2025 PlayStation 5 Open World Game Getting Unexpected Sequel

A 2025 PS5 open world sandbox game is getting a sequel, which comes as a surprise given the first game’s reception. Wreckreation 2 will be a sequel to the 2025 arcade racer that earned a lukewarm reception from players and critics alike.

The Wreckreation IP has been handed over to a new studio this time. The original game was developed by Three Fields Entertainment and published by THQ Nordic. The sequel is in development at When Tides Turn — a studio founded by Criterion Games‘ co-founder Fiona Sperry.

A release date or release window for Wreckreation 2 wasn’t revealed, but you can check out an announcement trailer below:

“Over the last six months we’ve been talking directly to players about what they want from a modern arcade driving game, and Wreckreation 2 is the result of those conversations,” Sperry said in a press release. “From handling and progression to events and world design, our community has already helped shape key aspects of the experience. We’re building this game with the players, not just for them.”

Sony Quietly Retracts PlayStation Plus Premium PS5 Game for July

Sony has quietly updated the PS Blog to note that a PS Plus Premium July 2026 game was mistakenly announced for the PS5. Like many, I assumed that a PS5 version of Indigo Prophecy / Fahrenheit meant that a fresh emulated port with new features would be released, as we have seen in some cases, but that’s not what we’re getting today.

Today’s catalog addition is nothing more than the 2016 PS4 port of Indigo Prophecy, which often goes for as low as $2 in PS Store sales. This is a bit unfortunate because the game doesn’t run too well on the PS5 and could do with a proper current-gen port, but alas, that’s not happening.

This also means that my assumption that the 2016 PS4 listing would be removed and replaced with a modern port was wrong. My apologies for that one. I should have known better than to assume Sony was kind enough to offer two new classics — something PS Plus Premium users haven’t seen in a long time.

Indigo Prophecy isn’t on sale right now, so you’ll have to fork out $14.99 for the dated PS4 port. We recommend waiting for the next price drop.

PlayStation 5 Remake of Fan Favorite PS1 Action Game Incoming – Rumor

A rumor cropped up over the weekend that Capcom is working on a PS5 remake of a fan favorite 1999 PS1 action adventure game. Directed and produced by Shinji Mikami, Dino Crisis has not seen a new entry since 2003, and fans have been begging Capcom to revive the series. If this rumor is to be believed, that wish might come true.

This rumor comes from Team Biohazard who, like Dusk Golem, mostly specialize in Capcom news and leaks. Team Biohazard has had some accurate leaks in the past, but do seem to get their wires crossed with Dusk Golem sometimes, so take this rumor with a customary grain of salt.

According to Team Biohazard, a modern remake of Dino Crisis has been in development since at least 2022. They claim that we might see the game sometime between 2028-2029, which means that it’ll end up being a digital-only launch.

Although Capcom hasn’t revived Dino Crisis thus far, it did experiment with a dinosaur-themed action game when it released Exoprimal in 2023. Unfortunately, the multiplayer shooter got a lukewarm reception, and a year after its release, Capcom ended support for the game.

PlayStation Plus Adds PS5 Exclusive Open World RPG

PS Plus Extra/Premium catalog has dropped the first PS5 game — a 2024 RPG — for July 2026 in select regions. Developed by Team Ninja and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, PS5 console exclusive Rise of the Ronin headlines this month’s catalog additions.

As a reminder, Sony has begun staggering the rollout of PS Plus Extra and Premium games in the US, the UK, and Japan, so these three regions can access Rise of the Ronin now. The remaining regions will get the title on Tuesday, July 21.

Rise of the Ronin is set in Japan in 1863.

“After three centuries of the Tokugawa Shogunate’s oppressive rule, the Black Ships of the West descend upon the nation’s borders and the country falls into a state of turmoil,” the plot reads. “Amidst the chaos of war, disease, and political unrest, a nameless warrior forges their own path, holding the very fate of Japan in their hands.”

The next batch of PS Plus Extra and Premium games will drop on July 21. Folks in the US, UK, and Japan will get Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Firefighting Simulator: Ignite, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy (Premium), and Indigo Prophecy (Premium) on that date.

Acclaimed PS5 Shooter Gets Expansion Today on PlayStation Store

As the busy video game release months draw near, July still has some worthwhile games to check out in the meantime. From story-driven horror to action-adventure spy thrillers, there seems to be a game for everyone. This notion includes DLC, like Doom: The Dark Ages – Revelations, a story expansion for the lauded first-person shooter.

What is Doom: The Dark Ages – Revelations?

Developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks, Doom: The Dark Ages – Revelations is a story expansion that “unleashes a brutal new chapter of the Slayer’s saga.” It features new levels, demons, and the Chain Spear weapon. It also introduces Ripatorium 3.0, which includes 3 new maps, new demons, and fully upgraded new weapons.

Here is a trailer and description of Doom: The Dark Ages – Revelations, giving PS5 players a taste of what to expect from the new story-rich expansion:

“Wounded and betrayed, the Slayer is thrust into a merciless purgatory only escapable by confronting haunting truths and forging new strength with the help of a mysterious ally. He must ascend from the prison of his mind and fight an abomination of the gods to set his followers on that path to freedom.”

The Doom: The Dark Ages – Revelations expansion is available now for PS5 via the PS Store. It is available to purchase standalone for $19.99. Players who currently own the game can also receive it with the Premium Edition upgrade, which costs $34.99. Premium Edition owners do not have to purchase the expansion as it was included with that version of the game.

It should be noted that although the expansion can be purchased by itself, players must own Doom: The Dark Ages to play the expansion.

When Doom: The Dark Ages was originally released last year, it received solid review scores. According to the review aggregate site Metacritic, it garnered an average score of 83 based on 69 critic reviews. In our review, we gave it a 9 out of 10.

“Doom: The Dark Ages shows that the team at id Software refuses to rest on its laurels and is always looking to iterate upon Doom’s fantastic base,” reads our review. The addition of the shield helps the gameplay feel entirely fresh, with the parry system and melee combat helping differentiate itself from Doom Eternal, which perfected the push-forward combat.”

Highly Anticipated PS5 Sci-Fi Adventure Game Delayed

A promising PS5 AAA sci-fi adventure game that was showcased at The Game Awards 2025 has unfortunately been delayed. Brought to us by Frictional Games (SOMA) and published by Kepler Interactive, Ontos was originally scheduled for release in 2026.

Ontos will now release sometime in 2027. Frictional Games didn’t say which quarter of the year to expect the game within.

“Ontos is our most ambitious game to date, both in terms of its size and scale, and in the depth and layers of our story and gameplay,” the studio said in a statement. “In order to deliver this vision, we have decided to push the release of Ontos to 2027. We look forward to sharing more updates about Ontos, our characters, and our world soon.”

“You are Aditi Amani, invited to the repurposed moon hotel Samsara by the cryptic legacy of your estranged father, a brilliant mind-turned-prophet,” the plot reads. “What begins as a search for answers quickly spirals into something far stranger. PS5 System Update for July 2026 Is Live, Don’t Get Your Hopes Up

Sony Interactive Entertainment has rolled out PS5 system software update 26.04-13.42.00 to ring in July 2026. As usual, the new firmware doesn’t bring any changes that will excite players, but prepare to download around 1 GB of data on your PS5 and PS5 Pro.

“We’ve improved system software performance and stability,” the official patch notes read. This is standard language for minor changes and/or security patches that Sony doesn’t want to advertise.

Sadly, the update doesn’t fix PS5’s Recently Played section, which has been broken for over two weeks now. As I explained in our recent coverage of the issue, the section is stuck for many players and doesn’t register games that affected users have played or are playing since at least a month ago. It’s pretty annoying because the Recently Played feature is widely used to track game campaign and trophy progress.

Sony did, however, find the time to apply a GTA VI overlay to the PS5’s Welcome Hub. Many may not have noticed, but even the PS Store’s search bar flashes GTA VI’s color scheme when searching for games!

This update doesn’t make any noteworthy changes (at least none that I’ve spotted thus far), but we’ll update our readers when we have more information.

Black Desert, Blades of Fire, and Farming Simulator 25 are available now in Japan and the UK, with the USA to follow. As a reminder, the PS Store updates around noon local time.

Major PS5 Feature Down for the Last 2 Weeks, Sony Silent

A widely used PS5 feature has been down for the last two weeks on both the console and the PS App, and Sony has yet to acknowledge the issue. The company temporarily took down PlayStation’s “Recently Played” section to fix a PS Store glitch earlier this month, and although the feature returned shortly afterwards, it’s been busted ever since.

As we previously explained, sometime around June 15, players suddenly started seeing raunchy games in their libraries and the Recently Played section that they hadn’t purchased. Sony took the feature down to fix the problem, but the company seems to have broken something else.

It appears that PSN’s clock has been set back by a month or so, and all the games we’ve played since then have either disappeared or don’t register in Recently Played. From what I’ve gathered, the problem affects both disc-based and digital games, but most of the complaints are coming from folks who’re playing games off of discs.

I, like many others, use the Recently Played feature — especially on the PS App — to check game campaign and trophy progress. While there are other ways to check both, going through the Recently Played section is quick and convenient.

Due to this issue, players can no longer check their campaign completion percentage for the games they’re playing via the PS App. On the PS5, the Recently Played widget in the Welcome Hub has been rendered useless, and players now have to hover over a game tile for an overview of their progress.

I’ve seen arguments that this isn’t a dealbreaker, but all the complaints lodged on gaming forums over the past two weeks suggest that a considerable number of players (myself included) use the Recently Played section frequently. Over the last day alone, at least a dozen threads have popped up on the PlayStation subreddit, inquiring about the issue.

It’s certainly a bit annoying to have it broken for this long.

Reaching out to Sony has been of no use, as the company rarely addresses such matters. There’s no ETA for a fix, then, so we’ll have to wait.

Surprise PS5 Feature Update Adds Cool New Home Screen

In a rare move, Sony dropped a stealth PS5 feature update that adds a custom home screen to greet players. As GTA VI preorders went live around the globe, so did a neat new Welcome Hub animation for the game that automatically plays after booting up and logging into the console.

This is the first such update we’ve seen from Sony in this generation, confirming its long-rumored GTA VI marketing partnership with Rockstar Games. Even Sony’s own first-party games have not received this treatment thus far.

Do note that this is a server-side update, so you can’t force download it. When it’s live in your region, it’ll automatically be applied to your PS5.

The promotion doesn’t end here, though. The PS Store has been overtaken by all things GTA VI. What’s more, the PS App’s icon is now GTA VI-themed. The app has been updated on both Android and iOS in regions where it’s available.

Players are now convinced that Rockstar Games will stealth-drop a new GTA VI trailer sometime soon.

2026 Video Game Price Hike Confirmed With First $80 PS5 Game

Grand Theft Auto VI developer Rockstar Games has just become the first company to launch an $80 PS5 game in 2026, setting a new price standard for AAA PS5 video games after Nintendo’s first-party titles. The company confirmed this morning that the highly anticipated game will charge players $80 for the standard edition and $100 for the Ultimate Edition.

In a press release, Rockstar Games also confirmed that GTA 6, which is described as a single-player experience, will not launch on disc. The game’s boxed version will contain a download code.

Promising PS5 Action Game Announced a Year Ago Is Canceled – Report

An intriguing PS5 action adventure game that was announced in June 2025 appears to have been canceled already. Revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase, Mudang: Two Hearts was a project by Korean dev EVR Studio, who quietly filed for bankruptcy earlier this month.

Over on Reddit, user kimchamchi shared documents revealing that EVR Studio was declared bankrupt on June 5, 2026, and Mudang: Two Hearts’ development was stopped.

When Mudang: Two Hearts was announced, it was confirmed that EVR Studio would be both developing and publishing the game. Suffice it to say that unless an external party rescues Mudang: Two Hearts, the project is dead.

It’s worth noting that although Mudang: Two Hearts was revealed a year ago, the game has been in development since at least 2023. It was previously known as “Project TH” and was given a 2024 release window.

Free PS Plus Premium Being Offered to Select PS5 Players

In a rare move, Sony Interactive Entertainment is offering a free PS Plus Premium subscription trial to select PS5 players. Free membership trials used to be a regular occurrence in the days of yore, but ever since it locked almost everything — including save data backups — behind PS Plus, Sony has only really offered membership upgrade discounts.

Reddit users shared screenshots of a PS5 console notification they received from Sony that includes a voucher code for a free week of PS Plus Premium. From what we’ve gathered, the offer is only going out to those who’ve yet to join PS Plus.

As mentioned in the notification, the code has to be redeemed by July 5, so these free trial offers are very limited. If you’ve never had a PS Plus subscription on a PlayStation account you have access to, we suggest logging in and checking your console notifications.

There are plenty of short and sweet games in the catalog that you can play and finish within a week.

As a reminder, make sure to turn off Auto Renew immediately after redeeming the offer, and to be on the safe side, remove your payment information for the time being so that your membership doesn’t automatically renew after a week. If that happens, you won’t get a refund.

PlayStation Network Services Partially Down, Sony Confirms

Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that PlayStation Network services are partially down since the evening of June 16, 2026, following a bizarre PS Store glitch. The issue began when players suddenly started seeing games in their library and “Recently Played” section that they hadn’t even purchased. What’s more, nearly all of the mysterious games were raunchy titles, like Sex Store Simulator and Hentai Princess.

In a popular Reddit thread and numerous social media posts, players shared screenshots of random games that appeared in their libraries and “Recently Played” section with hundreds and thousands of hours clocked in.

Here’s the list of random appearances that we’ve compiled so far:

• Sex Store/Shop Simulator (appears in all reported cases)
• Avatar Island
• Hentai Princess (appears in all reported cases)
• Horror Night with Tung Tung Tung Sahur
• Quiz Thiz Germany

I personally didn’t experience this glitch, but after reports of the issue spread, Sony apparently took down everyone’s “Recently Played” section. I can confirm that at the time of this writing, I am unable to see my list.

Over on the official PlayStation Status page, Sony notes that “Gaming and social” services are experiencing a disruption, and they still are at the time of this writing. Multiplayer and other services do not seem to be impacted. Affected platforms include “PS5, other.”

“You might have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features,” a message reads. “We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

Surprise PS4 System Update 13.52 Brings Bad News for Some

Sony Interactive Entertainment rolled out PS4 system software update 13.52 out of nowhere this morning, June 16, and it brings some unwelcome “improvements” for the modding/jailbreaking community. Unlike the March 2026 firmware update that brought usability improvements, this one patches security exploits and vulnerabilities.

“We’ve made some security fixes to the system software,” the official patch notes read. But we all know by now what this means. Although the PS4 was jailbroken long ago, the company is trying to deter ongoing and future hacking and modding attempts.

We can see why, though. The PS4 has a massive library of games and remains one of Sony’s most popular consoles. After all, the company still hasn’t given up on the PS3 either, as evidenced by the annual Blu-ray and security patches it receives.

In other PS4 news, the console continues to lose features, services, and support for popular games, which is unfortunate but understandable given its age. One of the biggest blows came recently when it was confirmed that Call of Duty will no longer support last-gen platforms.

We’ll update our readers if players notice any unannounced changes after today’s system software update.

In news we didn’t expect to see this week, PS5 is getting a complete, enhanced port of an acclaimed PS Vita RPG after 13 years. Muramasa: Revenant Blades is a rework of Vanillaware’s Muramasa Rebirth. Published by Marvelous, the game first launched for the Nintendo Wii in 2009 as Muramasa: The Demon Blade.

Muramasa: Revenant Blades will release in early 2027 for $49.99. A limited edition will also be available for $89.99, which will include:

• Art book
• Soundtrack CD

Players will learn the stories of six characters whose lives are upended by the swords.
