Xbox boss Phil Spencer has once again reassured Call of Duty players that the game will receive native versions on PlayStation and won’t be forced through a Game Pass subscription. That’s in case Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes ahead. The deal currently hangs in the balance as European and UK regulators scrutinize the merger and assess its impact on competition. Call of Duty’s future has been hotly debated, and Microsoft is keen to assuage any concerns.
Microsoft’s committed to releasing Call of Duty on multiple platforms
“Native on the platform, not having to subscribe to Game Pass,” Spencer told The Verge with reference to Call of Duty on PlayStation. “Sony does not have to take Game Pass on their platform to make that happen. There’s nothing hidden. We want to continue to ship Call of Duty on PlayStation without any kind of weird, ‘Aha! I figured out the gotcha.'”
Spencer revealed that Candy Crush alone makes more money than Activision Blizzard, and the idea that the proposed Microsoft Activision merger has anything to do with Call of Duty is “a construct that might get created by our console competitor,” an obvious reference to Sony considering Nintendo hasn’t expressed any concerns about the deal.
