Activision’s EVP of Corporate Affairs and CCO Lulu Cheng Meservey has delivered an usual threat – on Twitter of all the places – of a legal “fight” if regulators block the Microsoft Activision deal. Meservey’s Thanksgiving message was seemingly tweeted in response to a report from Politico which claimed that FTC is “likely” to file an anti-trust lawsuit against the merger under chair Lina Khan – a fierce critic of tech monopolies.
Regulators investigating Microsoft Activision deal unlikely to be deterred by threats
Activision is well within its rights to take the battle to court should the deal not be approved but a Twitter threat is unlikely to deter regulators, especially those in the U.K. and rest of Europe not beholden to the U.S. tech industry’s way of doing things. Meservey’s tweet reads:
Seeing a lot of speculation about Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Any suggestion that the transaction could have anticompetitive effects is absurd. This merger will benefit gamers and the US gaming industry — especially as we face stiffer competition from abroad. We’re committed to continuing to work cooperatively with regulators around the globe to allow the transaction to proceed, but won’t hesitate to fight to defend the transaction if that’s needed.
Interesting choice of words.
