God of War Ragnarok director Eric Williams has revealed that some members of his team were “freaking out” just three months ago because they thought the game wasn’t good enough. In a new interview with GQ, both Williams and God of War 2018 director Cory Barlog discussed the making of Ragnarok and how the team remains motivated.
God of War Ragnarok received universal acclaim
Much like the 2018 game, Ragnarok received glowing reviews across the board with only one outlier. That’s quite a feat for Williams considering Barlog set the bar pretty high four years ago. Williams told GQ that with the game being on store shelves, some members of the team will want to jump onto the next project without taking a break even though they were panicking just three months ago.
“They were freaking out three months ago,” Williams recalled. “‘Holy crap, the game’s not good. What are we going to do?’ I can’t even imagine how they feel today.”
Williams revealed that Santa Monica Studio had some of the big plot points for Ragnarok noted down after wrapping up the 2018 game. The only thing he and Barlog had to mull over was whether to finish the story in two or three installments. Two it is.
