PS5 System Update Rolled Out for the Second Time in October

PS5 system update version 22.02-06.02.00 has been rolled out – the second update to hit the console in October 2022 – and we’re offering no prizes for guessing what it does. “This system software update improves system performance” is the lone patch note found on the official PlayStation website, and as usual, we’re stuck fiddling around with the console to see what may have changed. To be fair, Sony does announce significant changes, like September’s major PS5 firmware update that added folders, 1440p support, and new social features among other things.

October’s PS5 system update comes amid a fresh jailbreak

The PS5 has been (partially) jailbroken, and hackers are making great strides towards a fully functioning jailbreak. Considering the exploit uses a vulnerability that has been known for a while, it’s possible that Sony is finding ways to plug it and prevent hackers from gaining kernel level access. That said, the PS2 is one of the best-selling consoles in the world and its jailbroken units only added to its popularity. We don’t foresee jailbroken PS5s putting a dent in hardware sales, but software sales are another matter.

We’ll update our readers when we find out what the PS5 system software update version 22.02-06.02.00 actually does.
