Here we go again. Another bug, another round of speculations that Sony’s toying with PS5 backwards compatibility with PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. This time, a bug briefly wiped PS4 trophies and displayed them as PS3 games. It hasn’t even been a fortnight since a bug had PS3 games appearing on the PS5 console store with price tags. However, that bug has been around for a while and the prices reflected old PS Now prices from a time the service used to allow renting games individually. That said, we don’t have a good explanation for this latest bug.
Has Sony hinted at PS5 backwards compatibility with older libraries?
Sony’s been excellent at staying mum about PS5 backwards compatibility with PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. However, a recently-updated patent filing suggested that the company is still actively toying with the feature. Back in December, Bloomberg reported that Sony was working on a Game Pass rival code named Project Spartacus so this is all curious timing and too much to simply be a coincidence. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that Project Spartacus will offer subscribers access to older game libraries, and this is what it’s all about.

Opinion: Sony needs to put PS5 backwards compatibility rumors to rest
Zarmena writes… I know it’s not like Sony to comment on speculations and rumors, but I still hope this one is put to rest soon. Project Spartacus seems all but confirmed so it makes the wait for an official announcement even more difficult for fans. That said, I have a feeling that the grand reveal will happen sometime this spring.
In other news, Respawn is working on three new Star Wars games, and Final Fantasy XIV is finally back on sale.
