Driveclub, Driveclub VR, and Driveclub Bikes Will Go Offline in March 2020

Sony has announced that servers for Driveclub, its virtual reality version, and Driveclub Bikes will be permanently taken offline on March 31, 2020. The company will remove the titles from the PlayStation Store on August 31, 2019.

An official notice reads:

Online servers for Driveclub, Driveclub VR and Driveclub Bikes will shut down on 31st March 2020All online features (including online multiplayer modes) will cease on that date. You will still be able to play and enjoy these games in single player offline modes. However, the games have significant amounts of online gameplay, so from 31st March 2020, functionality will be affected in the following ways:

You will not be able to:

– Use your season pass online.

– Represent your Club online in multiplayer events or tours.

– Play online multiplayer and compete in challenges.

– Create your own events.

– Compete in leader boards, or share stats and player progress.

You will be able to:

– Use your season pass on all single player and offline modes.

– Continue to play all game (DC, DC VR and DC Bikes) and DLC single player functionality in offline mode.

– Earn trophies in single player / offline mode.

In addition to the above, Sony has reminded players that PS VR title Starblood Arena will be taken offline on 25th of July this year. The game will no longer be playable following this date.

The move to take Driveclub offline may surprise many. Despite its infamous troubled launch, it’s one of the most-played racing games on the PS4. Driveclub also has a free PlayStation Plus version and its full version was previously included in the monthly PlayStation Plus lineup.

Driveclub‘s developer, UK-based Evolution Studios, shut down in 2016 after 17 years of operation. Some of the game’s development team later joined Codemasters to create Onrush. Unfortunately, the game didn’t meet sales expectations, resulting in some of the former Evolution staff members being let go.
