Elden Ring sales have crossed 12 million units worldwide, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced. More than a million copies were sold in Japan alone. In a press release, FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki and Bandai Namco president and CEO Yasuo Miyakawa said that they were delighted to see how well Elden Ring has performed and thanked fans for their support throughout its development and upon release.
Elden Ring is one of the highest-rated games in recent years
Not only is Elden Ring one of the highest-rated games on aggregate sites Metacritic and OpenCritic, it’s also already one of the best-selling games in the United States over the past year. On PlayStation-specific charts, it beat Guerrilla Games’ highly-anticipated Horizon Forbidden West to become one of the most downloaded games in February.
“It’s astonishing to see just how many people have been playing Elden Ring,” Miyazaki said. “I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team. We hope players enjoy a high level of freedom when adventuring through its vast world, exploring its many secrets and facing up to its many threats.” “I would like to use this opportunity to give my thanks to all our fans who have brought Elden Ring into their gaming life,” Miyakawa added. “I am very proud to have been involved in bringing such a wonderful and fantastic game.”
Interestingly, Miyakawa mentioned in his statement that Bandai Namco will continue to work on Elden Ring with the aim of “expanding the brand beyond the game itself, and into everyone’s daily life.” He didn’t elaborate further but in June last year, the company revealed that it has plans to explore other media with Elden Ring.
In other news, EA Play Live 2022 has been cancelled, and Ubisoft has dropped Tom Clancy’s name from XDefiant.
