The Last of Us Part II reportedly pushed into early 2020

"The Last of Us" is a title that's meant to convey the desperation of living as one of the few survivors of a rampant fungal outbreak that caused society's collapse. For the sequel, the title will inadvertently double as acknowledgment that the PlayStation 4 is on its way out the door.

It seems as though The Last of Us Part II will be one of the final major triple-A first-party games from Sony this generation. Kotaku's Jason Schreier reports that Naughty Dog's long-awaited sequel has been pushed into early 2020. The PlayStation 5 is rumored to release late next year.

Sony hasn't yet publicly committed to a launch window for The Last of Us Part II. However, it was recently reconfirmed that it'll be a PS4 game -- not something that's saved for the next console. Given that constraint, there's not a lot of time left.

We might get more information in the coming days. There's word going 'round that Sony will host its third State of Play stream later this week. If that's ends up happening, it's a decent bet that Sony will finally nail down when we can expect The Last of Us Part II to arrive.
