Fans have been fearing that one of the best PS4, PS3 shooters is in the process of shutting down, but those speculations have been put to rest. Players noticed that as of a month ago, Battlefield 4 turned off the option to rent servers on PS4, which means that players can’t create new servers or renew existing ones.
EA says it’s not shutting down beloved PS4, PS3 shooter Battlefield 4
Once the existing Battlefield 4 servers expire, they’ll be gone for good, and this will have major implications on the game’s multiplayer. It also means that you won’t be able to boost with friends. Additionally, some of Battlefield 4’s trophies might become harder to unlock.
The option to renew or create servers was already nuked on the PS3 sometime last year, and this latest development on the PS4 has players worried.
“I don’t know if this is EA trying to quietly shut down Battlefield 4 communities, push people to Battlefield 2042, or just force players into Quick Match using DICE-owned servers,” one player complained on Reddit. “Either way, it feels like we’ve been abandoned. To make it worse, there’s been no official announcement.”
Well, EA heard the noise and issued the following statement:
All’s well that ends well. That said, Battlefield 4 will inevitably shut down one day, so if you’re trying to pop those trophies, now is a good time to get them out of the way.
