Sony Forms ‘PlayStation PC’ Label as CFO Talks About ‘Aggressively’ Investing in Development Capabilities

Hawk-eyed Steam users have noticed that Sony now has a new ‘PlayStation PC’ label for its first-party PC ports. The company was previously using the PlayStation Mobile label.

Registration documentation found on Corporation Wiki reveals that Sony registered ‘PlayStation PC’ back in April amid its executives stressing upon the importance of expanding the PlayStation experience beyond traditional consoles. With titles like Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone already ported, Sony has plans to bring hit franchises like God of War and Uncharted to PC players as well.

Yesterday, Sony Group published its financial results for the second quarter of the current fiscal year ended September 30th, following which chief financial officer Hiroki Totoki said that the company plans to “aggressively” invest in its development capabilities. He added that with recent studio acquisitions, Sony plans to “use the expertise necessary to deploy games to PC and mobile devices.”

“Going forward, we plan to leverage these studios to increase the development capability of PlayStation Studios and to use the expertise necessary to deploy games to PC and mobile devices,” Totoki said, according to a transcript provided by Video Games Chronicle. “As a result of the acquisitions announced since the beginning of this fiscal year, the number of PlayStation studios will increase by four to 16, and the number of developers will increase by almost 20 percent. We plan to continue to aggressively invest in our development capability going forward.”

Talking specifically about Bluepoint Games and Firesprite acquisitions, Totoki said that both studios have “excellent technical capabilities and superb track records.”
