A Sony Interactive Entertainment representative has confirmed to Ars Technica that God of War‘s PC port has been outsourced to Vancouver-based company, Jetpack Interactive. Santa Monica Studio is merely “overseeing” the project. According to the publication, Jetpack Interactive specializes in ports.
Perusing Jetpack Interactive’s website reveals that it has previously provided engineering support for Dark Souls‘ Steam version, and has helped with games like Electronic Arts’ NBA series and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare II. Jetpack Interactive seems to have no history of working with Sony with the exception of making a PlayStation 4 port of Orcs Must Die! Unchained.
It’s unclear why Sony didn’t tap Nixxes Software to work on God of War‘s PC version. The company previously confirmed that it acquired Nixxes Software with the aim of porting PlayStation first-party games over to PC.
“We are also happy with our efforts to provide our IP to PCs, although it is still in its infancy, and we look forward to working with Nixxes to help with that,” SIE’s Chief Executive Officer Jim Ryan recently told Famitsu.
Hawk-eyed ResetEra users also discovered an interesting tidbit of information regarding Jetpack Interactive. According to the LinkedIn profile of its Tools and Systems Programmer Warren Lee, one of his current projects is God of War Ragnarok. While a future PC port of Ragnarok certainly isn’t outside the realm of possibility, it’s possible that Jetpack Interactive is helping out with the console release in some way.
We’ll update our readers when we have more information.
