Figma is the perfect format for Overwatch's Zenyatta

The figure-fans of Good Smile Co. have unveiled pictures of the next release in their Overwatch Figma range. Next to bless us with their poseable presence is powerful healer - and one of the few characters yet to be redesigned as DPS - Zenyatta.

The tranquil Omnic stands a typical 150mm in height and contains all of the dynamic flexibility typified by the Figma design. Due to his robotic nature, the multiple joints on this particular Figma blend in very well with the design and are mostly seamless.

Of course, Zenyatta also comes with multiple accessories and alternate hands. These include a peace symbol, a ring of harmonic orbs, an orb of harmony and discord (which can be attached to other Figmas), as well as dioramas plates to recreate the appearance of his Transcendence ult.

If you're interested in picking up the healer for your home, then pre-orders are open now on the Good Smile Co. website and the Blizzard Gear store. Zenyatta is expected to price around $75-80USD, not including shipping charges, and should be releasing in Q3 of 2019.

Review: Alwa's Awakening (Switch)

I think we're over the whole tired "ugh not another retro game" rhetoric that kicked off during the Xbox Live Arcade era.

Once people realized over the course of the past decade they were here to stay, and that many of them were quite good, the rabble died down. Some are more retro than others, and Alwa's Awakening definitely skews toward the '80s end of the spectrum.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey best deals from Ultimate to Standard Edtions

Arriving Friday this week, Ubisoft's latest installment of Assassin's Creed title, Assassin's Creed Odyssey comes in four different editions. In fact, the two priciest editions will come with early access on Tuesday, October 2nd - a full 3 days before the official release date. Before you scoff at the early-access-only-for-expensive-edition schemes, the concept has been proven to work, what with Shadow of the Tomb Raider Croft Edition (the only version getting early access) being the top seller on Steam Store the full week before the official release date.

Thankfully, list price aside, we've found plenty of decent savings on Assassin's Creed Odyssey so if you're looking for the best and cheapest deal on release week, you're at the right place. Below, you'll find discounts at up to 20% off for the PC Uplay digital copy, while console copies can still reap a $10 rewards certificate bonus.

As of writing, pre-load has already started for the PC version of Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Both digital retailers listed below are sending out Uplay keys immediately after purchase.

Note: Gold and Ultimate Editions listed below has an early access release date of Tuesday, 10/02/18, while all other editions are Friday, 10/05/18.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Console Deals

Note: Best Buy pre-order $10 rewards certificate bonus offer is available until 5 PM central time the day before the street date (10/05/18). If you order it past the cut-off time, YMMV on receiving the $10 bonus.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Pre-Order Bonus

Picking up any of the editions of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, whether for the PC or console will net you a bonus "The Blind King" additional mission DLC. Strangely, details on the mission have been light and there actually have been theories and discussion surrounding who the "king" is that is being referenced in the DLC namesake. If you're a casual Assassin's Creed or history fan, then this is probably a moot point for you. While it is a bit annoying that content is being tucked behind a pre-order exclusion, based on experience in the past these DLC missions are made available for free through Ubisoft Club (free to join) about a month after the game is fully released.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Ultimate Edition Comparison

Ubisoft has taken money-grab to the next level, with Assasin's Creed Odyssey having four editions on launch (non-collector's editions). With list price as high as $120, you'd think you'll be receiving some sort of physical bonus such as a figure, statue, or other forms of collectibles. You'll be dead wrong as everything is digital.

If you want physical goodies, you'll have to opt for the Collector Editions which comes in the form of a Spartan ($159.99) and Patheon Edition ($219.99!). For the game itself, the Standard is $59.99, Deluxe is $79.99, Gold is $99.99, while the Ultimate is $119.99. Suffice to say, Ultimate Edition is only for the biggest Assassin's Creed fan that wants everything the game offers.

For simplicity sake, we'll focus on the editions that are accessible to most gamers (the collector's editions are sold in limited quantity and only at select retailers). Here's the breakdown:

  • Standard Edition - base game
  • Deluxe Edition (+$20) -  deluxe pack: Kronos and Herald of Dust gear packs, Capricornus naval pack, 1 XP and 1 Drachma boost
  • Gold Edition (+$40) - season pass with new narrative arcs, major story content. also includes "The Secrets of Greece" exclusive quest on launch
  • Ultimate Edition (+$60) - everything above: base game + deluxe pack + season pass

What's amazing is that unlike previous product segmentation, Ubisoft has decided to strip the generally cosmetic and in-game digital items from the Deluxe out of the Gold Edition. This means if you want the Deluxe in-game items, buying the Gold Edition is not enough. You'll have to buy the priciest Ultimate Edition.

Which Deal to Get?

Now that you know the edition break-downs, which version of Assassin's Creed Odyssey should you pick up? The best deal for Standard PC Uplay copy is currently at Razer Game Store for $48.28 (after using 10% off coupon). At 20% off, this is a great deal for release week. If you're positive you'll be playing Season Pass content - Gold Edition at $80 is also a decent price, especially as you'll be receiving the 3-day early access as well.

As for the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition? We'd suggest staying away - lease we encourage Ubisoft (and the rest of the industry) to continue this pricing strategy for in-game digital items. At the end of the day though, if you're a big Assassin's Creed fan and you have the disposable income, at the very least you can reap over $24 in savings by using the deals listed above.

Review: Jake Hunter Detective Story: Ghost of the Dusk

One of the blessings of the Nintendo DS was that it gave several Japanese exclusive franchises their first taste of international fame. The Starfy series made its debut in the west on the DS in 2008, six years after it had already found its footing in Japan. The Glory of Heracles had been kicking around in Japan since 1987, before finally heading out west on the DS.

Then there is the Jake Hunter franchise. This detective adventure series was kicking around Japan for nearly two decades before it was finally given a chance to reach a larger audience. When it did, it made a terrible debut with Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles. Arc System Works tried again a year later with Jake Hunter: Memories of the Past, a more fitting outing for one of gaming's most storied detectives. It was alright, not the best but not the worst; the exact sentiment I'd use to describe Ghost of the Dusk.

This was one twist ending I did not see coming

The internet ruins a lot of thing. People, relationships, children’s’ entertainment shows, governments; all have fallen victim to the scourge that is the world wide web. But worse than all that, the internet has also ruined storytelling, or at the very least, the ability to easily enjoy a story without it being completely spoiled for you. Because there is more entertainment than time available, there’s an entire industry of videos on YouTube where stories and plot twists are spoiled for all within hours of their debut.

That’s why Sakurai cut the story out of Smash 4 and why I can no longer follow GameXplain on YouTube. It’s also why I have about 9,000 muted words on Twitter. Too many crucial story elements have been ruined for me, but it wasn’t always like that. Before the prevalence of the social media, plot twists in games were absolutely still able to take me by surprise. Finding out Samus is a woman or that Super Mario Bros. 2 is all a dream blew my mind back in the day. Even finding out the princess is in another castle captivated a pre-school CJ (you mean this game is longer than 4 levels?!?!?!?!) But there was no more of an earth-shattering revelation than the one found at the end of Double Dragon.

We didn’t own Double Dragon growing up. If we had, I would have more than likely read the manual where all of this is spoiled. But we didn’t own it, we rented it on our NES and played it a few times in co-op on the arcade cabinet. Over the years, while this secret was already out in the open, I was kept out of the loop of the game’s true final boss until we got the Game Genie. Will unlimited lives, I was finally able to make it to the final boss in the NES version, and I couldn’t believe it when I saw the final boss was me. I say it was me because, as the younger brother, I was always the second player in co-op. So I was always Jimmy, and in this game, I was the villain. Mind…blown.

Red Dead Was Once a Capcom Project That Resembled ‘Really Bad Japanese Action Games’

red dead franchise

Chris Bratt of YouTube channel People Make Games has published an interesting video, which takes a look at the birth of Rockstar’s popular Red Dead franchise that initially began as a Capcom project.

Before being acquired and renamed Rockstar San Diego, developer Angel Studios was tasked with making a game called SWAT in which players controlled a SWAT team. Capcom executive Yoshiki Okamoto decided to change direction after watching a Western movie starring Ringo Starr. As a result, Red Dead was born.

Bratt interviewed Red Dead Revolver developer, Dominic Craig, who described the original game as something in between Sega’s Panzer Dragoon and “really bad Japanese action games.” The project was a bit of a mess, eventually leading Capcom to cancel it in 2003.

Rockstar had a little more faith and decided to rescue the game, however. After acquiring rights, the developer allowed its San Diego team to continue work on the project, which released in 2004 as Red Dead Revolver.

The video above is a little over twelve minutes and worth watching, so make sure to check it out.

Rockstar’s highly-anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 will release on October 26, 2018 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For more on the upcoming release, check out our recent coverage.

Review: Life is Strange 2: Episode 1: Roads

Are you a good person? It's a simple question: Are you a good person? It's conditional and it's negotiable. Everyone has their justifications.

This question hangs over the entirety of the introductory chapter to Life is Strange 2. We should expect this from Life is Strange. This is a series where nothing is ever easy. Still, the sequel makes its intent known right from the get-go: Being a good person isn't as simple as it sounds.
