Taiko no Tatsujin announced for western release!

The moment I and many of you have long awaited is finally here! That’s right, Taiko no Tatsujin is finally making its way to the west on November 2nd for both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4!

Taiko no Tatsujin is a cult classic in Japan, originally released as an arcade game that then spawned many tiles across console and mobile platforms. Sadly, having never been to Japan I have yet to experience this sensational drum-based rhythm game, which has only ever seen one release in America, Taiko: Drum Master in 2004.

Taiko no Tatsujin will be launching as two new games later this year as Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! for the Nintendo Switch and Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session! for the PlayStation 4. Bandai Namco made the announcement with a trailer released earlier today which you can view below.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! for Nintendo Switch® introduces motion-control play that uniquely replicates the popular arcade-style experience, using the Joy-Con® controllers as drumsticks. The Nintendo Switch version offers a single player experience as well as offering a multiplayer experience by connecting multiple Nintendo Switch consoles through Local Wireless Session to in Taiko Mode, or, attach multiple Joy-Con controllers to a single Nintendo Switch to play Party Mode with up to 4 players. The game also features 20 multiplayer rhythm-based mini-games that can be played by up to 4 players. Other favourite Nintendo characters also make an appearance in the Rhythm Games Mode, where players will be able to play as characters from classic Nintendo® games including Kirby from Kirby® and Squid from Splatoon® 2.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum Session! for the PlayStation 4, on the other hand, has a more competitive focus, where you can play with a friend in co-op and versus mode, or play online with ghost data of your friends to see who can achieve the best score. You can also go online in Ranked Mode and test your skills against ghost data of Taiko players all over the world to see who is #1! The PlayStation 4 version also offers you the chance to play a Guest Session alongside characters such as Hatsune Miku and Hello Kitty, and unlockable Content such as costumes for Taiko series mascot Don-chan, sound effects, and greetings.

Both versions of the game will feature songs from anime series such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and even Zenzenzense from the movie Your Name which I am personally looking forward to! Disney songs will also make an appearance, including Frozen and Zootopia, with other appearances from Kemono Friends, Osomatsu San, Hatsune Miku and even Touhou Project. Bandai Namco has also included tracks from their own series as well, such as Tekken, Tales of Berseria, Ridge Racer and Idolmaster!

The game features many kawaii characters and I just can’t wait to finally get my hands on them and start pounding to the beat! The Nintendo Switch also lends itself perfectly for this style of game, it’s going to be so much fun! Are you excited for these releases? Which version will you be buying? Let me know in the comments below!
