No Silent Hill 2 Remake News But Bloober Is Reportedly Shifting Focus to New Project

Silent Hill 2 Remake

As fans are clamoring for Silent Hill 2 remake news, it has been reported that developer Bloober Team has begun shifting its focus to its next project. In late November, Bloober Team told concerned fans that Silent Hill 2’s production is progressing smoothly, but it cannot provide any updates beyond that as it was publisher Konami‘s job to do so.

Silent Hill 2 remake possibly in polishing stage

According to known insider and leaker Dusk Golem, Silent Hill 2 is “basically feature complete and just in its polishing phase.” This speculation is supported by the statement Bloober Team released in November 2023, in which it said that the studio is working to ensure that the game “attains the highest quality.”

Dusk Golem also pointed towards a corporate notice on Bloober Team’s website dated January 2, 2024, in which the company mentions that it has secured funding for an Unreal Engine 5 related project.

This notice along with Bloober Team’s November 2023 statement suggests that Silent Hill 2’s remake is likely undergoing final touches. According to Dusk Golem, only a skeleton crew is currently working on the timed PS5 exclusive, while others have moved on to the horror game licensed by The Walking Dead owner Skybound.

Square Enix’s 2024 Goal Is to ‘Aggressively’ Pursue AI

Square Enix games tend to skip Xbox.

Square Enix has published its annual New Year’s letter from the president, with the 2024 edition barely mentioning video games. In what has now become a tradition for the company, president Takashi Kiryu talks about “aggressively” pursuing latest technologies and trends. Previously, it was blockchain. Now, it’s artificial intelligence.

Square Enix wants to strengthen games development

As far as video games go, Square Enix wants to bolster its content pipeline by strengthening development and publishing capabilities. However, Kiryu says that the company is also vetting its existing pipeline of titles under development.

“Specifically, we have begun optimizing our resource allocation across our entire development chain in order to accelerate an effort that was already underway to strengthen our internal development capabilities,” Kiryu wrote. “On the publishing side, which consists of our sales and marketing functions, we are working to enable greater global collaboration and to promote the shift to digital.”

It’s unclear how Square Enix plans to expand its publishing business going forward. The company famously offloaded a large number of once-successful Western development studios and their IPs to the Embracer Group, only for the Swedish holding company to end up undergoing mass layoffs and restructuring throughout the entirety of 2023.

Little Nightmares Getting an Enhanced Edition for PS5

Little Nightmares Getting an Enhanced Edition for PS5

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has confirmed the existence of Little Nightmares: Enhanced Edition for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The unannounced title was first outed by South Africa’s rating board exactly a year ago.

What does Little Nightmares: Enhanced Edition entail?

In the absence of an official announcement — which now seems imminent — we can only assume that this is a native current-gen version of the 2017 release that may include downloadable content with some added bells and whistles. First spotted by Gematsu, the ESRB rating doesn’t give much away.

“This is an adventure platformer in which players assume the role of a girl (Six) who must escape a nightmarish world,” reads the ESRB description. “As players traverse the environment, they run, jump, climb, and sneak around to avoid enemies (e.g., leaches, large human-like creatures).”

Little Nightmares released to positive reviews and went on to receive a sequel in 2021. Little Nightmares II was also positively received, following which a third entry was announced. The upcoming game, which is expected to release in 2024, is being developed by Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games.

Tarsier Studios, which developed the first two games, was acquired by the Embracer Group, with publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment retaining the Little Nightmares IP.

Death Stranding 2 Development Update Given by Hideo Kojima

Death Stranding 2 Development Update Given by Hideo Kojima

Hideo Kojima has provided a brief development update on Death Stranding 2 as part of his New Year’s message. From the sound of things, fans will have to wait a bit to see more of the game and get a release date as there’s still some voice over work yet to be started.

Death Stranding 2 update (January 1, 2024)

Kojima revealed that Death Stranding 2 is still wrapping up Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADL) work, following which the development team will start recording Japanese voice overs. Kojima added that he wants to concentrate on making games and limit traveling, but that seems nearly impossible because he’s tied up in quite a few projects including the Death Stranding movie.

“I want to concentrate on creating games, so I would like to limit my business trips, but I can’t do nothing because I have to shoot for OD [Xbox game Overdose], collaborate with Avengers, make DS [Death Stranding] into a movie, and work on other video projects,” Kojima tweeted. “In addition to production, I am also planning to add another writing series, not only for anan [magazine] but also for other projects. We are also planning to run a special program on ‘HideTube,’ which we have been neglecting, as a trial.”

Kojima also expressed his desire to revive “Hide Radio.”

Horizon MMORPG by NCSoft Seems All But Confirmed

Horizon MMORPG reportedly in development

The rumored Horizon MMORPG in development at Korean company NCSoft seems all but confirmed as fans have uncovered some compelling evidence of its existence. This is apparently a different project than the Horizon multiplayer game previously confirmed by Guerrilla Games.

NCSoft’s Horizon MMORPG has been rumored for a year

Sony Interactive Entertainment only recently announced its partnership with NCSoft but rumors of a Horizon MMORPG have been swirling since November 2022. Korean publication MTN reported on a partnership between the companies at the time, but it wasn’t until the weekend that Twitter user Kurakasis found and compiled evidence from employee profiles and job advertisements that corroborated MTN’s report.

The MMORPG is code named Skyline Project and has been in development since at least 2021. As of December 2023, the project is still in existence as evidenced by the screenshot of a job description shared in the tweet above.

Interestingly, the evidence uncovered so far only makes reference to PC and mobile versions of the rumored game. While this doesn’t necessarily mean that a PS5 version isn’t in development, it’s possible that Sony’s making a multiplayer game for the PS5 separately than a PC/mobile MMO. It’s also possible that another developer — not NCSoft — has been tasked with the PS5 MMORPG.
