Fallout 76 is playable now, hours ahead of release

Bethesda has flipped the power switch for Fallout 76 hours ahead of schedule. Originally set to launch at midnight in every respective time zone, Fallout 76 is playable now.

This is seemingly born out of a bug that wasn't worth fixing. PC users have reported that upon opening the Bethesda games launcher, Fallout 76 wasn't accessible. However, waiting for just a few seconds -- like hovering your mouse over the game and doing nothing -- would eventually trigger the option to launch it.

I was able to personally confirm that Fallout 76 is also available on Xbox One right now. Upon firing it up, five achievements unlocked (which isn't nearly enough considering I spent upward of 20 hours with the beta); achievements for tasks like completing the very first quests stayed locked, so something clearly needs to be worked out there. We weren't able to test PlayStation 4, but it stands to reason Fallout 76 can be accessed early there too.

Not a bad launch day surprise for people who were going to eagerly wait until midnight before getting in some late-night Wasteland wandering. Well, everyone except folks who are over on the Australia side of the world. This didn't really benefit them at all.
