Bungie is publishing a physical lore grimoire for Destiny

Destiny's lore has been a long-debated issue dating all the way back to the beta of the original release. Bungie has some great story bits hidden underneath the cliche in-game narrative, it just so happened that, at the time, it was tucked away on an external website called the grimoire.

For a major production it was an absolutely bizarre occurrence, because the studio could have had people flip through hours of lore with a rudimentary browser and become more invested in the series -- instead, many casual fans who never used the Bungie.net website just missed out on that part of the series entirely. Eventually, they took the grimoire offline entirely. Later this year, it's back (in pog physical form).

Bungie just announced part one of the Destiny Grimoire Anthology, a compendium series of art and lore. The first taste is $24.99 for a hardcover 128 page book (with an in-game emblem for Destiny 2), and will release later this fall. According to the banner still present on the store "When you shop at the Bungie Store, you are helping to support the Bungie Foundation."

Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s New Trailer Explores its ‘Stunning World’

shadow of the tomb raider open world

Following an announcement that Shadow of the Tomb Raider has officially gone gold, a new trailer arrived, showing off the game’s platforming mechanics. Now another new look at the upcoming title has hit the web. This one, brief though it is, explores the “stunning” locales Lara Croft will encounter in her latest adventure. Check it out below:

In the Shadow of the Tomb Raider trailer, we see Lara entering jungles, exploring mountainous terrain, eyeing what are presumably tombs from afar, and gazing up at what is likely a platforming puzzle. Needless to say, the world does indeed look stunning. It appears to hold more than its fair share of danger as well. Considering Lara’s new globetrotting trek will see her attempting to thwart an apocalypse, the imminent dangers matter little.

The coming launch of Shadow of the Tomb Raider is bitter sweet. While no one should anticipate the hero’s death, developers have teased that this will mark Lara’s final journey in the trilogy. Unfortunately, there are presently no plans to explore her story any further; thus, she’ll be tested and pushed to her limits.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s synopsis is as follows:

Experience Lara Croft’s defining moment as she becomes the Tomb Raider. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara must master a deadly jungle, overcome terrifying tombs, and persevere through her darkest hour. As she races to save the world from a Maya apocalypse, Lara will ultimately be forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be.

Fans can experience Lara coming into her own as the Tomb Raider when Shadow of the Tomb Raider hits store shelves for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 14, 2018.

Rumor: GameStop Is Ending Elite Pro Membership Tier

GameStop Elite Pro Ending

Deals for gamers are dying off left and right. First, Best Buy Gamer’s Club Unlocked was quietly snuffed out. After that, Amazon Prime began adding stipulations on game eligibility, stating that remakes and rereleases were no longer discounted. Keep in mind, this was after already going from Amazon went from its original 20% off newly-released games to 20% off preorders only. Recently, we saw Amazon UK End the £2 Prime discount on preorders all together. Now there’s a rumor circulating that GameStop is planning to end its Elite Pro membership tier. The rumor started on r/Gamestop with user u/Red_Trainer, allegedly an assistant manager at the store, claiming their District Leader informed them that the program would be cancelled starting August 1, 2018.

While we’re still waiting for official confirmation from GameStop, this decision would make sense. GameStop itself is up for sale, having confirmed buyout rumors in June 2018. Considering the recent decreases in discounts among GameStop’s competition (i.e Best Buy and Amazon), the company does not need to provide incentives to shoppers. Plus, while discounts can be good for business due to getting people in the stores and possibly spending more, some deals are too good to create optimal profit margins.

Keep in mind, the GameStop’s Elite Pro Membership was also really new. The membership tier rolled out in Fall 2017. While it’s understandable for fans to upset and/or worried, this could just be a failed experiment for the company, rather than a sign of their demise.

The GameStop Elite Pro Membership was priced at $29.99 per year and came with the following perks:

  • 30 points for every dollar spent (3x points)
  • A birthday offer
  • 20% off pre-owned software and accessories
  • 20% extra trade credit on software, accessories, and for the first time ever, tech
  • 12 issues of Game Informer Magazine
  • A Buy 2 Get 1 free pre-owned games welcome offer
  • A collectibles welcome offer
  • Free 2-day shipping

There are no rumors surrounding the standard Pro membership, which is $14.99 per year and has the following benefits:

  • 20 points for every dollar spent (2x points)
  • A birthday offer
  • 10% off pre-owned software and accessories
  • 10% extra trade credit on software, accessories, and for the first time ever, tech
  • 12 issues of Game Informer Magazine
  • A Buy 2 Get 1 free pre-owned games welcome offer
  • Exclusive Pro Day Sales

If this GameStop rumor is true, will you be affected? What do you think about the current state of deals in the video game industry? Let us know in the comments below.

Marvel's Spider-Man is ready to websling onto your PS4

Fans of Marvel's second-best web-slinger (after Jessica Drew) can stoke their hype-fires a little today. Insomniac Games has announced that their exciting open-world adventure, Spider-Man, has gone gold.

As I'm very sure you're all aware, the phrase "gone gold" refers to a game's preliminary development being finished, with the code being ready to press to disc. Spider-Man has been finished with time to spare, too, as it won't be hitting the shelves for a little over a month. Just pull it forward already!

Insomniac made the announcement via twitter, which also includes a recreation of the popular image - I believe you kids call them "memes" - of Spider-Man sitting casually behind a desk. The new Spider-Man game will see Peter Parker don a variety of spidey-suits and swing his way around New York, battling popular villains such as Doc Ock, Rhino, Electro and Shocker, maybe getting help from a few friends along the way.

Spider-Man launches September 7 on PS4 and is available for pre-order in differing editions.

Anthem’s Map Size Confirmed by BioWare Developer

anthem map size

Apart from a lengthy gameplay walkthrough, the preponderance of BioWare’s post-E3 Anthem hype has been relegated to developers sharing details on social media. This seemingly works wonders for them, allowing the team to get a clear message across to fans. And there is plenty to glean from these details, too. For instance, we’ve learned about AI teammates, or a lack thereof, information on the Javelin suits continues to trickle out, and enemy behavior sounds intriguing. One aspect of Anthem that fans may be curious about is map size, especially since this marks BioWare’s first foray into shared-world shooters. Technical Design Director Brenon Holmes recently teased people about what to expect on Reddit.

When responding to an inquiry on Anthem’s official subreddit, Holmes confirmed the size of the map. Redditor SwellyNelly posted the following screenshot to the subreddit:

anthem map size

In their post, the Redditor asked, “Is this actually the map size?” Holmes chimed in affirmatively and said, “Yep! There’s a bit missing at the top and bottom in this screen-grab though.” To get a better sense of the size, be sure to check out the aforementioned gameplay walkthrough from which this screenshot was taken.

From what’s been shown of Anthem, we can discern there is still plenty of the map left to see. Only a few areas have been explored in trailers. Interestingly, much of that space has been dedicated to underground, enemy-riddled territories and internal safe spaces for players. With the release date approaching in just under seven months, BioWare should soon begin offering more details at a quicker pace.

Anthem launches early next year on February 22, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

I hope you like Bleach, because it's the main focus of this new Jump Force trailer

Jump Force, a 3v3 fighter from Bandai Namco is set for a release in 2019, and the publisher has been steadily showcasing its fighters since its E3 release. One confirmed universe is Bleach, the manga/anime series that ended up spanning 266 episodes over eight years. For those of you who don't follow the show, it's basically follows the adventures of several Grim Reapers...with swords instead of scythes (though the series does feature scythes too).

Ichigo Kurosaku, Rukika Kuchiki, and Sousuke Aizen are all confirmed to represent the Bleach series in Jump Force. That's currently more than any other anime right now, as Dragon Ball, Naruto, and One Piece all have two reps each confirmed thus far (though that will likely change).

Go Insane With a New Trailer for Lovecraft-Inspired The Sinking City

The Sinking City gameplay

Inspired by the dark eldritch horrors of HP Lovecraft fame, The Sinking City is an open-world action investigation game that pits players against an unsettling atmosphere, haunting mystery, and their own mental state. Released today, a new trailer titled “A Close Shave” shows off brand new gameplay as well as a look at lead character Charles W. Reed’s declining mental state. As he shaves his stubble, tentacles begin to protrude from the small razor nicks. It’s all just in his head though, right?

Reed is a private investigator tortured by a troubled past, seeking redemption and escape from the insanity. He finds himself in Oakmont, Massachusetts, a town isolated from the rest of the world by supernatural means and a bizarre flood. Reed will have to dig into clues to uncover a mystery that could have world-ending consequences, but there’s always the chance he’s just completely insane. You can get a look at some of the gameplay and all of the madness in the “A Close Shave” trailer for The Sinking City.

Developer Frogwares is the same team behind the recent Sherlock Holmes games–Crimes and Punishments and The Devil’s Daughter–and The Sinking City combines their penchant for intriguing mystery with a world filled with cosmic horrors and things that will drive you mad. Back in March, a dev diary explored one of the game’s demos, showing off even more gameplay. The studio also announced a release date for 2019 at E3 this year after releasing another trailer to get players excited for the game back in May. If you’d like to get a look at some of the eldritch horrors that await, check out some of the screenshots and concept art for The Sinking City in the gallery below.

The Sinking City releases on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 19, 2019.
