PS Plus, PS5 Expect More PS1 Classics as New Dev Adds Support

PS Plus Premium classics

PS Plus Premium users will be happy to note that another developer has announced support for PS1 classics on PS5 and PS4. Sony has lately been criticized for a lackluster classics lineup, especially in the latter half of 2025. But Brazilian studio QUByte Interactive might help change that.

PS Plus Premium users hoping for an end to the lull in classics lineup

Over on X, QUByte announced that its internal emulation engine has been successfully updated to support PS1 games. The company is already in the process of porting three titles to modern platforms: 1998 action game Invasion from Beyond (B-Movie), 1997 racer Motor Mash, and 1997 shooter One.

While there’s currently no confirmation of these games landing on PS Plus, Sony has in the past teamed up with emulation companies to bring classics to PS5 and PS4, so fans have their hopes up.

For now, QUByte is bringing a 1994 Ubisoft-published game to PS5 and PS4 on November 27, 2025. Street Racer, which was marketed as a fusion of Mario Kart and Street Fighter back in the day, will return as Street Racer Collection. The package includes four versions of the game that were released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Mega Drive, MS-DOS, and Game Boy.

2025 PS Plus Game Failed to Perform Despite Day-1 Launch

PS Plus game Lost Records: Bloom & Rage

A 2025 PS Plus game has bombed commercially despite launching on the service day one, its developer has announced. Don’t Nod’s Lost Records: Bloom & Rage was split into two halves — Tape 1 and Tape 2 — both of which were made available to PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers at launch.

PS Plus day-1 game Lost Records: Bloom & Rage sales ‘below expectations’

Announcing its half-year financial results, Don’t Nod revealed that Bloom & Rage’s sales performance “remained below expectations, leading to a partial write-down of €13.1 million.” Tape 1 and 2 launched in February and April, respectively.

That said, Bloom & Rage’s inclusion in PS Plus may have saved both the game and Don’t Nod from complete doom. The developer revealed “a very strong increase in revenue, which rose 3.8-fold” because of the game’s inclusion in PS Plus. Looks like Sony paid a pretty penny for Bloom & Rage.

For Don’t Nod, another massive loss could have been devastating as the developer has struggled to release a commercial hit in recent years. 2024’s Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden failed to make a splash, much like Jusant from the year before. 2020’s Twin Mirror wasn’t a money maker either.

Don’t Nod’s next game is Aphelion, a cinematic third-person action-adventure headed to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

PS5 & PS Plus RPG Ending Support, Will Eventually Shut Down

New World Aeternum PS Plus, PS5

A 2024 PS5 multiplayer RPG, which joined PS Plus Extra in July 2025, is already ending support and will eventually shut down. Amazon Games has announced that it’s no longer sustainable to continue supporting New World: Aeternum. As a result, Season 10 and Nighthaven update will be the game’s final content.

PS5 multiplayer RPG New World: Aeternum will remain in PS Plus catalog until further notice

In a note to players, Amazon Games said that it plans to keep New World: Aeternum servers live throughout 2026. Additionally, the game will remain accessible to PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers until further notice.

As for what happens after 2026, the publisher hasn’t detailed its plans yet, but did pledge to give players plenty of notice.

In the meantime, New World: Aeternum will remain available for purchase via PS Store, and its Nighthaven update is free for all players.

“Players of Aeternum: Your dedication and enthusiasm have made this New World adventure an unforgettable journey,” Amazon wrote. “We’re deeply grateful for every moment you’ve spent helping build this extraordinary world alongside us. It has been an honor to share Aeternum with you, thank you for helping make this game something truly special.”

New World: Aeternum’s microtransactions are not being pulled yet. Amazon has said that players shouldn’t expect refunds, however, so keep that in mind before spending money.

New PS5 Exclusive Action RPG Looks Amazing, Out Soon

PS5 RPG Loulan: The Cursed Sand

Sony has announced an intriguing new action RPG for PS5 and PC, and it’s due out “soon.” Loulan: The Cursed Sand is a console exclusive in development at Chinese studio ChillyRoom. The game’s trailer has been met with a very positive response from fans.

PS5 RPG Loulan: The Cursed Sand published by Sony as part of China Hero Project

Loulan: The Cursed Sand is being funded and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment under its China Hero Project program. The RPG is set along the ancient trade route of the Silk Road that passed through China, with players stepping into the role of “a skeletal warrior wielding the power of sand.”

Check out the announcement trailer below:

We’re getting a lot of Prince of Persia and PS3-era God of War vibes here. And perhaps that’s why it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when we read that ChillyRoom is comprised of developers who have worked at studios like Sony Santa Monica, FromSoftware, and PlatinumGames.

“Inspired by the archaeological discovery of the Xiaohe Princess, the story follows the Cursed Sand, a royal guard resurrected after death, as he embarks on a tragic journey to find the lost Princess of Loulan,” ChillyRoom wrote on the PS Blog.

For context, the Princess of Xiaohe’s mummy was discovered in 2003 in a cemetery in China. She is said to have been buried approximately 3,800 years ago.

A slice of history and classic RPG gameplay with a catchy soundtrack? Loulan: The Cursed Sand has our attention!

PS5 Exclusive Multiplayer Game Shutting Down After 4 Years

PS5 console exclusive game Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt shutting down

A 2022 PS5 console exclusive multiplayer game is shutting down four years after launch, its developer has announced. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is a unique battle royale game that received generally positive reviews. Unfortunately, however, its player population has declined to a point where it’s no longer feasible to keep servers running.

PS5 console exclusive game Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt shutting down in 2026

Developer Sharkmob has said that Bloodhunt will remain online until April 28, 2026 — a date that marks the game’s fourth anniversary. Following this date, Bloodhunt will become completely unplayable, so trophy hunters have six months to wrap things up.

All microtransactions have been disabled as of today. However, Bloodhunt’s in-game store will remain open until the game shuts down to allow players to spend any tokens they have left. To comply with European legal requirements, all player account and gameplay data will be deleted after Bloodhunt goes offline.

“During these past 4 years, we have been thrilled to see your passion and dedication to Bloodhunt,” Sharkmob wrote. “Your feedback, creativity, and enthusiasm for our game has meant the world to us.”

It’s unclear why Bloodhunt didn’t release on Xbox or Nintendo Switch. The game’s PlayStation page proudly displays the “PS5 console exclusive” badge, but Bloodhunt may have benefited from being available on platforms beyond PS5 and PC.

PS5 Pro Snubbed by Yet Another Major New Game

The Outer Worlds 2 PS5 Pro game performance

PS5 Pro players have been left disappointed as yet another major upcoming game performs poorly on the pricey console. The culprit this time is Obsidian Entertainment’s The Outer Worlds 2, which is a bit surprising because Xbox Studios have been pretty good at supporting PS5 Pro.

Upcoming Obsidian game The Outer Worlds 2 performs the worst on PS5 Pro

Experts at Digital Foundry published a tech review for The Outer Worlds 2, noting that while the game impresses on Xbox, its performance leaves much to be desired on both the base PS5 and PS5 Pro.

On the base PS5, The Outer Worlds 2 suffers from issues like screen tearing and frame rate dips. But it’s the PS5 Pro performance that’s far more disappointing, with Digital Foundry noting that the game’s visuals can be “remarkably unstable” on the console.

Oddly enough, The Outer Worlds 2’s PS Store page carries the “Pro Enhanced tag,” but there aren’t any noteworthy enhancements to be seen. To top it off, the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaler doesn’t interact well with the game and makes its visuals worse.

The Outer Worlds 2 will release on October 29. Reviews for the game are already trickling out, and it currently holds an average of 81/100 (PS5 version) on Metacritic based on 21 reviews.

Death Stranding 1, 2 Update Adds Freebie and New PS5 Feature

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach update

Kojima Productions and Sony XDEV have launched a PS5 update each for Death Stranding Director’s Cut and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The patches mainly add support for PS5’s new Power Saver function.

Death Stranding 2, Director’s Cut October 2025 update information

The update for Death Stranding 2 also adds free Mandarin Chinese voice-over, which is a nice addition considering China is one of the biggest gaming markets and is becoming increasingly important for Sony.

All games that support Power Saver now display a little energy icon beneath the game tile on the PS5’s main UI. As of today, the feature is confirmed for/supported by the following games:

  • Days Gone Remastered
  • Demon’s Souls
  • Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
  • Death Stranding: Director’s Cut
  • Ghost of Yotei

To enable Power Saver, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Use Power Saver.

There’s nothing more to Death Stranding 2’s update than what’s been mentioned above. Players have been asking for new endgame content, including a New Game+ mode, but unfortunately, there are no hidden surprises in this patch.

That doesn’t mean Kojima Productions isn’t listening, however. We expect more patches with further support in the near future, so stay tuned.

Are any of our readers using the Power Saver mode? If yes, share your experience with it in the comments below.

First PS5 Black Friday 2025 Deals Have Already Been Revealed

PS5 Black Friday 2025 deals
Image: Sony Interactive Entertainment

Two PS5 Black Friday 2025 deals have been revealed a month ahead of the big annual sale. While one of the deals has officially been announced by a retail chain, the other is a Sony promotion leaked by a known insider.

First PS5 Black Friday 2025 console deals detailed

As spotted by X user Wario64, Costco has already announced its Black Friday 2025 offer for its members. Customers will be able to purchase a PS5 Slim disc edition console with an extra DualSense controller for just $479.99, saving them $120. This promotion will commence on November 28 and run through December 1.

As for the leak, it comes from none other than Dealabs user billbil-kun. According to them, like last year, Sony will be releasing a PS5 Fortnite “Flowering Chaos/Chaos Fleuri” console bundle for $449.99 that will include a PS5 Slim model with disc drive and the following in-game content:

  • Eight exclusive skins (worth 5,000 V-Bucks)
  • 1,000 V-Bucks

This deal offers a saving of roughly $100.

Billbil-kun claims that Sony’s promotion will become available starting November 21.

More deals will be officially revealed in due course, including a mega video game sale, PS Plus discounts, and offers on accessories, among other promotions.

We’ll update our readers when we have more information.

New PS5 System Update Out for October 2025 and It’s a Good One

PS5 / PS5 Pro system software update

Sony has rolled out PS5 system software update version 25.07-12.20.00 for October 2025, and it’s a pretty useful firmware update. Weighing over 1GB, the update makes it easy for players to check serial numbers of their PS5 consoles and DualSense controllers.

PS5 system software update 25.07-12.20.00 patch notes (October 22, 2025)

Complete patch notes for today’s firmware update are as follows:

  • You can now use your console to check the serial number of your console, and of DualSense wireless controllers that are currently connected by USB or Bluetooth.
    • For your console, select Settings > System > System Software > Console Information, and then check Serial Number.
    • For a DualSense wireless controller, select Settings > Accessories > General > Advanced Settings > View Serial Number.
  • We’ve updated the device software of the DualSense Edge wireless controller to improve stability.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.

There’s no PS4 or PS Portal system update accompanying today’s PS5 update even though usability improvements are typically rolled out across all devices simultaneously.

Speaking of Portal, the handheld hasn’t received a system update since June even though further improvements are long overdue. Additionally, PS Portal’s direct cloud streaming function has been in beta for quite some time now, but there’s no word from Sony regarding a full rollout.

PS Plus Users Warned Not to Download New Game Right Away

PS Plus game Yakuza: Like a Dragon

PS Plus Extra, Premium users are warned not to download an October 2025 game without checking their PS5, PS4 libraries first. Yakuza: Like a Dragon was part of PS Plus Essential monthly lineup in August 2022. If you redeemed the game then, and download it via the Extra catalog today, you’ll end up losing the Essential license for good.

Downloading Yakuza: Like a Dragon via PS Plus Extra will override Essential game license

We’ve been raising concerns about this issue since Sony revamped PS Plus, and it still hasn’t been fixed. My last article on this topic was published a year ago, and I continue to see complaints from unsuspecting players who lose access to their games by making this mistake.

For those who aren’t aware, players who redeem monthly games via Essential and then download them later down the line from the PS Plus Extra catalog find themselves locked out of said games for good. Essential games are yours to keep, but Extra/Premium games are not. If you re-download a game from Extra that you previously claimed via Essential, you will override your license. Once those games leave Extra, you can’t play them again unless you purchase them.

Sony support won’t help, and there’s no workaround or fix.

So, check your libraries to make sure you don’t already have a copy of Yakuza: Like a Dragon. If you don’t, go ahead and download the game via Extra (we highly recommend it). If you do find a copy in your library, avoid the Extra version like the plague.

Days Gone PS5 Gets Surprise Update With New Feature

Days Gone Remastered PS5 update

Bend Studio’s Days Gone Remastered has surprise dropped a new update to add support for PS5’s newest feature. It’s the latest first-party game to take advantage of the recently released Power Saver function that Sony added via a firmware update.

List of PS5 games that have received Power Saver update thus far (as of October 21, 2025)

“Adds compatibility for Power Saver mode on PS5 and PS5 Pro,” reads the lone patch note for Days Gone Remastered update version 1.036.180. This patch brings the total number of games with Power Saver mode to four. Supported titles are as follows:

  • Days Gone Remastered
  • Demon’s Souls
  • Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
  • Ghost of Yotei

As a reminder, those who want to use the Power Saver function have to enable it via the PS5 system menu using the following steps:

Go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Use Power Saver.

So far, there’s no sign of any third-party published game adding the option, which makes us wonder how well Power Saver will be supported going forward, especially in light of rumors that this mode paves the way for PS5 games to run on an upcoming PlayStation handheld that will be part of the PS6 generation.

Revised PS5 Controller Doesn’t Have Feature We Were Hoping For

PS5 controller feature

The rumored new revision of the PS5 DualSense controller has hit store shelves, but without the highly anticipated feature it was reportedly going to launch with. Rumor had it that the controller would feature a removable battery. Unfortunately, that’s not true.

Revised PS5 DualSense controller doesn’t feature dual mics

Tech YouTuber Austin Evans got his hands on the revised DualSense, which is packaged with a new PS5 Pro model. While there are some differences in the battery department, a removable unit isn’t one of them.

Both the original DualSense and its revision weigh the same, but the new model doesn’t feature a second mic at the back. There is a new battery connector and some extra reinforcement for the battery itself in the new DualSense.

Austin Evans also noticed that Sony is now procuring DualSense components, like vibration motors, from a different manufacturer. However, there’s no difference in performance between the original and revised models.

The original rumor of a removable battery came from a reputable source, but since that source is Polish, there may have been a translation error. The new controller does indeed feature battery revisions, but they are just not what they heard.

We’ll continue to cross our fingers for a removable battery, though!

PSN Down for Many But It’s Not a Sony Issue This Time

PSN Down

PSN is partially down for many users around the globe right now, but it’s not an issue on Sony’s end for once. Early in the morning, Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a massive outage, taking many websites and services down with it, including popular games like Fortnite and Roblox.

PSN among dozens of services down intermittently as Amazon Web Services resolves DNS issues

In a statement to The Guardian, AWS has said that it identified an underlying Domain Name System (DNS) issue, which it’s in the process of resolving. Many services are coming back online slowly, but users might still experience issues for a little while longer.

“The underlying DNS issue has been fully mitigated, and most AWS Service operations are succeeding normally now,” the statement reads. “Some requests may be throttled while we work toward full resolution. Additionally, some services are continuing to work through a backlog of events such as Cloudtrail and Lambda.”

From what we’ve seen, PSN and Xbox Live are only partially down. Reddit was down for a brief while and is slowly coming back online. Fortnite and Roblox are still struggling, but that’s likely due to millions of players trying to log on.

PSN status website shows all services in green.

Demon’s Souls PS5 Gets Surprise Update With New Feature

Demon's Souls PS5 update

One of the best PS5 launch exclusives has surprise dropped a new update to add support for the console’s latest feature. Players will recall that Sony added a Power Saver function in a recent firmware update. Bluepoint Games’ Demon’s Souls remake now supports the feature.

PS5 exclusive Demon’s Souls adds Power Saver mode in October 2025 update

Sony didn’t release patch notes for Demon’s Souls update 1.007.000, but players were quick to notice what’s new. Over on ResetEra, a player posted screenshots of the in-game menu screen as well as the game itself.

In the Power Saver mode, Demon’s Souls runs at 30 frames per second at a lower resolution. The screenshots can be viewed here.

Those who want to test the Power Saver function have to enable it via the PS5 system menu using the following steps:

Go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Use Power Saver.

It has been rumored that this feature is preparing PS5 games for an upcoming PlayStation handheld that will be part of the PS6 generation. Reliable insiders have said that the handheld will run both PS5 and PS4 games.

Worth noting that PS5’s Power Saver function was leaked well before Sony announced it, which adds more weight to said rumors.

2025 PS Plus Day-1 Game Already a Disaster for Its Dev

PS Plus game

In news that doesn’t come as a surprise to us, a four-month-old PS Plus day-one game has turned out to be a financial disaster. I published at least two articles about FBC: Firebreak, in which I expressed concern about the state of the game and its future. Now, developer Remedy Entertainment has issued a “profit warning” to investors for FBC: Firebreak.

FBC: Firebreak’s future looks bleak despite launching on PS Plus and Game Pass

As spotted by PC Gamer, Remedy has said that FBC: Firebreak missed its sales targets, and despite significant feedback-based changes and a major update, the game has failed to lure in enough players.

As a result, Remedy is “recognizing a non-cash impairment” of a whopping €14.9 million, which is the game’s development and publishing/distribution cost.

A statement in Remedy’s note to investors suggests that any further major updates will depend on sustainability. In other words, we might not see a lot of significant updates, and how long FBC: Firebreak remains online is also a big question mark right now.

“While we balance future investments to the title, we continue developing and improving the game in line with our updated long-term sales forecast,” Remedy wrote.

Like many, I never really understood the decision to make FBC: Firebreak, but I’m sure Remedy has a good reason.

2025 Game Gets Free PS5, PS4 Upgrade for Unusual Reason

Free PS5, PS4 upgrade

A six-month-old game is receiving a free PS5 and PS4 upgrade due to an unusual reason: its publisher wanted to add a Platinum trophy. Argonaut Games says that when it launched Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster, it didn’t include enough trophies to qualify for a Platinum trophy, and it’s now rectifying that.

Croc: Legend of the Gobbos free PS5, PS4 upgrade is aptly titled ‘Platinum’ Edition

Apparently, Sony doesn’t allow developers to “fix” the lack of a Platinum trophy with a patch, so Argonaut is having to replace the original listing with a new SKU on the PS Store, and existing owners will be entitled to the free upgrade.

More trophies and a Platinum aren’t the only things being added to Croc: Legend of the Gobbos Platinum Edition, though. Players are also getting the following:

  • A new time trial gameplay mode called Time Attack
  • Over 25 new additions to the Crocipedia.
  • The ability to toggle between different Croc Main Theme mixes in the main menu.
  • A bunch of bug fixes were squashed. Ker-Splat!
  • A handful of quality-of-life features and improvements.

Argonaut didn’t mention any price changes for new buyers, so we don’t expect the Platinum Edition to cost more than $29.99.

As for when the upgrade will drop, PS5 and PS4 players will be able to see the listing on October 16 as a new edition that they can download and play separately.

PS Store Drops Great Free PS5 Demos for Upcoming Games

Free PS5 demos for upcoming games

Two promising upcoming games have dropped free PS5 demos on the PS Store, and they aren’t locked behind PS Plus. All players can check out SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide and Lumines Arise demos, the latter of which is only back for a limited time ahead of its November release.

An increasing number of upcoming games are dropping free PS5 demos on PS Store

The demos were only recently dropped but players have already been checking them out, going by the hundreds of positive verified ratings they both have received. SpongeBob stands at 4.61/5 stars and Lumines Arise is at 4.51/5 stars.

Lumines Arise is scheduled for release on November 11, 2025. Its demo offers a sample of the single-player and multiplayer gameplay.

“A mind-blowing, fiendishly addictive reinvention of the puzzle classic Lumines from the creators of Tetris Effect: Connected, where sound pulses through your body, mind, and every block you place, triggering dazzling visuals synched to the driving beat of an infectious, eclectic soundtrack,” reads an official overview.

SpongeBob is scheduled for release on November 18, and its demo lets players try out the first few levels, switching between SpongeBob and Patrick.

“A clash between the Flying Dutchman and King Neptune has unleashed ghostly mayhem all over Bikini Bottom,” an official description reads. “SpongeBob and Patrick will need all their skills, bravery and – dare I say – wit, to return life to what passes for normal in their undersea home.”

Enjoy!

PS Store Adds Helpful Feature But Users Have Concerns

PS Store feature

Sony quietly added a helpful new feature to the PS Store, but it’s already causing some concern among users. In addition to the verified gaming rating system, the PS Store now allows players to leave proper reviews with a character limit of 4,000. The feature is currently available on the web store.

New PS Store reviews feature could be abused easily

Allowing user reviews is much welcome, but it’s who gets to review games that’s causing concern. The only requirement Sony has set thus far is having a game in your library (also applies to PS Plus games). Playing games before reviewing is not mandatory, and therein lies the problem.

I took a quick look at Ghost of Yotei‘s PS Store page as it’s the biggest new PS5 release, and it’s bound to have some reviews. There’s currently only one poor review of the game (1/5 stars), and it’s written by someone who seems to be having issues with their hardware rather than the game.

“Unplayable on PS5 – just a black screen,” it reads.

Now, I do believe that this user has the right to review Ghost of Yotei how they please, as they obviously purchased the game. But extending this to PS Plus games is a bit odd. I can only imagine what would happen to games that are unpopular additions to the monthly Essential lineup or Extra/Premium catalog.

For its part, Sony says that “every review comes from a verified owner of this game or item and is evaluated by a team of moderators.” But if we’ve learned anything about the PS Store, it’s that there has never been anything close to moderation on the storefront.

What do our readers think?

Popular PS5, PS Plus Action Game Gets Free DLC, PS5 Pro Patch

Control PS5, PS5 Pro, PS Plus free DLC

An acclaimed PS5 and PS Plus game has received a free update that adds a new DLC mission alongside PS5 Pro enhancements. Control Ultimate Edition console update 1.30 is out now on current-gen platforms. As announced back in March, PS4 players will not receive this update.

All Control Ultimate Edition PS5 owners, including PS Plus members, can access new free DLC

Today’s free DLC adds the “Dr. Yoshimi Tokui’s Guided Imagery Experience” featuring voiceover by Hideo Kojima. Previously exclusive to the PS4 Digital Deluxe version of Control, this mission becomes playable after picking up the Dr Tokui Tapes collectible in the Extrasensory Lab of the Research Sector.

In addition to the above, free outfits have been added. The following were previously preorder exclusives:

  • Astral Dive Suit
  • Tactical Response Gear
  • Urban Response Gear

Finally, here are the PS5 / PS5 Pro patch notes for update 1.30:

  • Added a new setting “Unlock Frame Rate”, enjoy!
  • Added VRR and 120Hz display output support for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, and unlocked the frame rate limitations for Quality and Performance Mode setting
  • Improved Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA) quality
  • Added HDR support
  • Updated SDR to 10bit (from 8bit), which reduces visible color banding
  • [PlayStation 5 Pro] Added PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) support. Using PSSR results in smoother edges, improved hair, and vegetation visual quality. Using PSSR can slightly impact performance, so if you would rather have the original “look” of Control, you can disable PSSR in the settings.
  • [PlayStation 5 Pro] Improved Screen Space Reflections in Performance Mode
  • [PlayStation 5 Pro] Updated Texture and Shadow resolution filtering (anisotropic)
  • Fixed grenade projectiles indicators only updating at 30 fps. Now they update properly everywhere they should.
  • Improved the sorting of character and weapon mods

As a reminder, Control Ultimate Edition is currently part of PS Plus Extra, Premium. However, it was previously given away as a free PS Plus monthly game, so players should check their libraries first to avoid accidentally overriding their free game license.

Today’s update is available to all PS5 players regardless of whether they purchased a copy or downloaded it from PS Plus.
