Arc System Works' stunning fighter Granblue Fantasy: Versus has announced the coming of its second DLC character, the friendly-but-fearsome swordswoman Narmaya, who will be made available to purchase worldwide on March 3 - incidentally launch day for the game's North American release.

Narmaya's charming presence and diminutive stature belie her incredible skills in battle. As part of a family whose goal is the mastery of every fighting style known to man or woman, Narmaya's sword technique is above reproach, allowing her to deal huge damage at close range, or fend off her assailants with stylish ranged jabs. Despite her frighteningly effective abilities, Narmaya is a delight to know, with a personality bursting with warmth and friendliness - almost to a fault.

Live Selections Removed From Resident Evil 3 Remake in Order to ‘Tell a Consistent Story’

Capcom producer Peter Fabiano has said that Resident Evil 3‘s remake won’t feature the original’s timed decision-making system, live selections, in order to “tell a consistent story.”

“The live selections were something that was included in the original Resident Evil 3. You know, they didn’t have much development time and there were challenges that they had to face,” Fabiano explained. “So one of the solutions they came up with to give the game some replayability was to add the live selections. In this case, the director really just wanted to tell a consistent story and so that’s why we decided to go with the one story with Resident Evil 3 [remake].”

Fabiano previously confirmed that the remake won’t feature multiple endings and Mercenary mode either.

Elsewhere in the interview, Fabiano discussed why Jill’s character is being expanded for the upcoming release. He said:

The director really wanted to show that Jill is a character that has the wherewithal to get through all situations. One of those situations, for example, is the Drain Deimos which makes an updated return in Resident Evil 3. When attacked by one of these, Jill risks getting infected with parasites which she must proceed to remove from herself by inducing vomiting. At its core, it is survival horror, right? And we want to keep those elements in there and [show] that Jill can get through these really hard situations.

In development for three years, Resident Evil 3‘s remake will release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 3rd.

As GDC Is Postponed Due to Coronavirus, E3 Organizer Is Monitoring the Situation and Capcom Canceled Events

After a number of companies pulled out of this year’s Game Developers Conference due to Coronavirus concerns, GDC organizer announced that it “fully intends” to host an event later in the summer. However, it has to consult its partners before a program is finalized so nothing is set in stone yet.

In the interim, GDC is giving speakers and award recipients the option to record their presentations and talks in video format, which it will then make available online for free on YouTube and via GDC Vault. All registrants will receive a full refund within the next four weeks.

Entertainment Software Association, Capcom, and Square Enix respond to the situation

E3 organizer ESA has told Game Informer that although E3 2020 is on track for June, “everyone is watching the situation very closely” and that health and safety remains its first priority.

Elsewhere, Capcom joined a growing list of companies that have canceled esports events. The developer announced on Twitter that Street Fighter V events Brussels Challenge 2020, Norcal Regionals 2020, and April Annihilation 2020 have been removed from this year’s Capcom Pro Tour.

Meanwhile, Square Enix announced some further cancelations after pulling a portion of its PAX East program and last week’s Final Fantasy VII Remake promotional event in Japan. The developer has now announced that it will no longer be going ahead with the Final Fantasy XIV and NieR concerts scheduled to take place in Tokyo in March and April. The Osaka performances are still on track but subject to change.

We’ll continue to apprise our readers of further developments.

Artist Masahiro Ito Further Fans Silent Hill Speculations With Cryptic Tweets

Yesterday, a tweet by Kojima Productions had some fans convinced that the developer was teasing a new Silent Hill game. The speculation has its roots in a number of reports that surfaced last year, claiming that Konami was working on multiple Silent Hill projects and that Hideo Kojima was involved in one of them.

As unlikely as it may seem, Konami did say that it’s considering ways to bring back the fan-favorite series and Kojima himself confirmed that he’s working on a horror game. Whether it’s Silent Hill or a different title is anybody’s guess right now but series artist Masahiro Ito’s cryptic tweets have further fanned speculations that Kojima Productions is up to something Silent Hill-related.

“This tweet means that I have nothing to tweet. If it goes well, I will have nothing to tweet tomorrow,” teased Ito. “Pyramid Head, R.I.P.”

The latter part of the tweet is peculiar because Ito said back in 2017 that he would be up for a Team Silent reunion if he was allowed to kill Pyramid Head.

Interestingly, last month Ito announced that he was working on a new game as a core member of the development team. However, he refused to reveal what he was working on. Additionally, he’s made no secret of his desire to work with Hideo Kojima in the future.

Considering all of the above, it’s no surprise that some Silent Hill fans have their hopes up.

Do our readers think Kojima and Konami have reconciled? Share your thoughts with us below.

Podtoid wants your questions but we'll settle for your tangs and biscuits

A terrible week came to a terrible end on Friday when it was confirmed the Game Developers Conference was being postponed as a precaution due to the COVID-19, more commonly known as the coronavirus. On Monday it seemed the show would still go on, but by the end of the week, after most of the biggest names in the industry pulled out, it made little sense to keep the original date as planned. This isn't how I wanted to end February, so let's kick March off right with some great community questions for Podtoid.

If you have a question for Chris, Charlotte, Dan, Occams, or myself, leave it in the comment section below. The more creative the question, the more likely it is to be asked during the show.

Coronavirus did a number on PAX East exhibitor merch stock

PAX East has been a lot of of fun this week. Caitlin Cooke and I interviewed Platinum's Hideki Kamiya yesterday after playing Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead, Disc Room, Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon, and a whole bunch of other new and promising games. That said, the show floor seemed a little less crowded than we were used to, and everyone we talked to seemed even more afraid of getting "conflu" than usual.

That might be because another virus was already on a lot of people's minds. Five mid-sized exhibitors told us yesterday that shipments of their new PAX East 2020 merch was either delayed or outright canceled before the show due to the impact of the coronavirus on their Chinese production partners. One exhibitor, who asked to remain anonymous for this story, told us that they've already made about $2,000 less than they did last year by this point in the show because their new Pinny Arcade pins weren't sent to them in time to sell on the floor.

So if you're at the show and you're wondering if your favorite developers need your support this year, there's reason to guess that they may need it more than ever. I could use your support too! I'll be on two panels today, one on gaming and parenting at the Cuttlefish theater at 5:30pm, and another at 9:30 in the Albatross theater where a group of interesting people and I will be interviewed by a troublemaking artificial intelligence. If you see me, ask me for a free Castlevania comedy comic strip compilation. I gave one to Hideki yesterday and he seemed mildly amused.

Whatcha been playing this week, Destructoid?

It's Saturday! Not only that, but it's the end of the month, and 2020 is now a thing that is fully underway. How're those new year's resolutions and targets going? Y'know what? It doesn't matter. Time is an arbitrary construct. You can be whoever you want to be, improve whatever you want to improve, and you can do it on January 1, or March 1, or June 14. There's no rules, pal. Just be you.

I'm being me. That means I'm working too much and not getting enough games played. I'm finally back with Miriam and rocking the gothic glamour of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It's still early days, but I'm definitely digging it, even if the horrifying imagery coming out of World of Horror is trying desperately to distract me... Maybe next week.

But I bet you've been playing much more than I have, so drop a few lines below and tell everybody in our awesome community what games are taking up your time. I know I sound like a broken record, but it's a very quiet release period right now, so hopefully you found the time to delve into your backlog, or maybe revisit an old favourite. Give us the good word.

Have a wonderful weekend, from all of us at Destructoid.

(Update: GDC 2020 Canceled) Activision, Blizzard, and Gearbox Join Growing List of GDC Cancellations

Update: GDC 2020 has been fully canceled. We’re expecting additional details to come in about the cancellation and how it will impact the remaining planned attendees, as well as those with travel plans for the event.

Original: As health concerns over the spreading coronavirus outbreak continue, even more companies are joining the list of GDC cancellations. Activision, Blizzard, and Gearbox have all recently announced that they will not be attending GDC 2020, as well as Amazon and Iron Galaxy’s cancellations earlier today.

They all join Microsoft, Unity, Epic Games, EA, Sony, Facebook/Oculus, Kojima Productions, and a number of other exhibitors that will not be attending. The companies are all also putting moratoriums on their employees and encouraging them not to travel to the event. It’s unknown if Gearbox’s decision to not attend will impact Counterplay Games’ tease for more Godfall PS5 info “really, really soon.”

Sony was the first to begin the string of cancellations, first withdrawing from PAX East shortly before announcing that it would not attend GDC. Facebook/Oculus followed quickly, and the cascade of cancellations has continued as the coronavirus outbreak situation develops. GDC organizers still haven’t outright canceled the event or made any comments regarding refunds for those choosing not to attend.

Questions have begun to arise about how coronavirus will impact the remainder of the year, particularly the planned marketing rollouts and releases of next-gen consoles. Many expected this GDC to focus on next-gen technologies in some aspect, being the last Game Developers Conference before the holiday 2020 release windows of PS5 and Xbox Series X. However, even the release of next-gen consoles could potentially be delayed or at least supply-limited as coronavirus has impacted the manufacturing areas of mainland China the worst.

GDC is set to take place from March 16-20, 2020 in San Francisco, though at this point it’s a fraction of the show it was planned to be.

Updates to Rockstar’s Website Fuel Speculation About Potential Teases

For the last few days, Rockstar Games’ website has been updated with new images. Though they’re cycling in and out, many fans now wonder if such changes are more than a simple website facelift. Might Rockstar be on the verge of teasing something big? It is possible, sure. However, it’s also possible the company just wants to switch things up a bit.

The altering images in question are seen when clicking the website’s three-lined menu button in the top-left corner. When I first visited the site, Rockstar’s logo appeared in yellow neon lights. However, it now bears the image that first garnered attention from Reddit user PrettyFlexo–Rockstar’s logo in blue with a red, light pink, and blue background. That imagery features in the screenshot below:

rockstar games website

VG247 managed to capture a different picture. It features what can only be described as an android version of the Oscar Statuette, wrapping its arms around Rockstar’s logo. A sparkling glass of champagne sits atop the logo’s star fixture. Check it out in the following screenshot, courtesy of VG247:

rockstar games website android

Presently, it remains unclear how often the images change in the menu. The changes themselves are still rather interesting, though. It’s worth remembering that ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2′s reveal, Rockstar’s Twitter account shared a look at the studio’s new logo, clearly inspired by imagery associated with Red Dead.

Perhaps changes on the company webpage represent the advent of similar teases? We’re bound to find out for certain eventually. Considering the unceasing Bully 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI rumors, all anyone can do is guess what Rockstar may have up its sleeve.

The company’s website isn’t the only facet of the business undergoing change. Early next month, Rockstar Games Co-founder Dan Houser will exit the studio. Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, recently assured investors that despite the shift in management, things couldn’t be better.

You can skip to the Forbidden Woods in Bloodborne again

As if I needed another reason to boot up Bloodborne and accidentally play the whole game again.

Yesterday, Bloodborne speedrunner GiantCookieJar discovered a glitch that let his brave hunter clip through some walls in the starting area and reach the Forbidden Woods, not unlike a similar skip that was patched out years ago involving a well-positioned jump onto a ledge. We're back in business!

This demonstration from Distortion2 shows how the new skip in Iosefka's Clinic works.

After alerting the first enemy in the game – a low-health werewolf who won't respawn – you need to turn around, run up the stairs, and get the wolf to grab you in the left corner. While you're being grabbed, "you want to spam L2 and R2" to clip out of bounds, then walk to the right, and drop down.

"You can skip straight to the Forbidden Woods on a fresh character," according to Distortion2. That means you can bypass bosses like Father Gascoigne, Blood-Starved Beast, and Vicar Amelia.

"The mashing of L2 and R2 is important when you get grabbed because it does a different animation where your character pushes the wolf off of you, and that allows you to actually clip through things."

Given From Software's history with patches, this trick might not last forever, so try it while you can. If you'd like to see the skip used in a full speedrun, here's one early example from Romanticore.
